Reception

Our Reception curriculum builds on the strong foundations established in the nursery, with a heightened focus on key areas of development. It is enriched by a diverse range of engaging activities and dynamic teaching methods that stimulate young minds. Thoughtfully planned, our curriculum ensures a balance of enjoyable learning while promoting essential skills and knowledge.

We have two Reception classes, each supported by a class teacher and a qualified early years practitioner, allowing for personalised attention and care. Our curriculum adheres to the Statutory Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, focusing on both prime and specific areas of learning:

Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social, and Emotional Development

These are integrated and applied through the:

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

A key feature of our curriculum is the Forest School, where outdoor learning strengthens physical development, resilience, and social-emotional skills, while fostering a deep connection with nature. Additionally, the children participate in swimming and gymnastics to further enhance their physical development. The children benefit from specialist instruction in French, PE, drama, and music, further enhancing their educational experience and laying a strong foundation for future learning.
